Peoria Players Theatre

Saw Dirty Rotten Scoundrels last night which turned out to be a musical...ooops! Didn't figure a movie adaptation would turn out to be all songs. It was a lot longer than I figured it to be, about 2 hours and 20 minutes. Some singers were LOTS better than others, about what you would expect from a city with limited local talent. Highlight had to be the full moon we got from "Freddy" one of the two main male characters. Not expecting to see a skinny little man butt, that's for sure! Pretty brave of him though considering Peoria! I am going to make sure I check out the descriptions of future shows as to avoid any more musicals but still see a good performance.

Sunday Afternoon Movies

Hubs and I have a new-ish Sunday afternoon tradition of going to Willow Knolls 14 to see a movie. They have "bargain twilight" shows which are from 4-6pm and are cheaper than even the matinees! They are only $4.50 and matinees are $5.25. If you see a show starting at 5:30 you get out about 7:30 which is perfect timing to get dinner if you haven't filled up on popcorn! They also offer the Frequent Moviegoer Club which is a card they swipe every time you buy a ticket or snacks and it accumulates points. Then the points get you free snacks and drinks. Also, the card allows you to see some shows at non-twilight times for the twilight price. Here's the link if you are interested:

Most recently we saw Iron Man and I have to agree with the critics. Too much flash and bang and not enough wittiness from Robert Downey Jr. He is really the only reason I went to see the first one and I had high hopes for this one.

Zootini

What better place to have a few martinis and snacks than in the middle of zebras, lions & rhinos? Zootini was held in the Africa building in the Peoria Zoo on Friday, May 14th. It was a fundraiser for the zoo with specialty martinis made by some of Peoria's hip restaurants. Publik House, June, Johnny's Italian Steakhouse & Tavern on Prospect all supplied the drinks & drink-makers for the evening. The mango-mojito martini was the hit of the night, made by Sabre Anderson of Publik House. The best new summer drink-fruity and refreshing and full of alcohol!!

Tickets were $35 in advance or $45 at the door. That got you 3 drink tickets and heavy hors d'oeuvres so it was actually not a bad deal. There was also live music outside under the pavilian. Just a fun way to change up your usual Friday night happy-hour!
